Last 12th May Novasoft and CUDECA Foundations presented the project to computerise this non profit organisation devoted to the care of advanced cancer patients through the philosophy and basic principles of palliative care. The presentation was done by Mr Juan Fajardo Navarro, Novasoft Healthcare Sector Director; Mrs Joan Hunt, Chairman and founder of the CUDECA Foundation; Mr Antonio German Castillo Romera, Novasoft Healthcare Sector Deputy Director and Mrs Marisa Martin Rosello, CUDECA Medical Director.
The cost of this project reaches 96,100 euros. Novasoft is funding the 75% of the total costs as a gesture for the charitable work that CUDECA provides to the rest of the society. Novasoft Foundation has provided 48.720 euros for the cost of licences; it has donated 24.000 euros of the 47.380 euros needed for the establishment of CUDECA. Also, Novasoft Foundation has managed Microsoft to provide Windows licences at no cost for CUDECA Foundation.
The project involves the establishment of an information system for the management of the electronic Medical History NovaHIS, covering any assisting area provided by CUDECA. This Hospital information system offers an easy and efficient way to register patients and it also allows a comprehensive monitoring of the patient.
The contract between both foundations was signed by Mr Juan Fajardo Navarro, Novasoft Healthcare Sector Director, and Mrs Joan Hunt, chairman and founder of the CUDECA Foundation during a press conference. The project started on the 21st April with the application of the Outpatients and Files modules. The establishment of the other NovaHIS modules, Patients Management, Admissions and Day Hospital, Clinical Station, Electronic Medical History (e-MH), Physiotherapy/Rehabilitation, NOVAHIS Pharmacy, Nursing Unit and Prescriptions Sheet, will be finished by the end of June.
Likewise, CUDECA Foundation has informed of its aim to open the Palliative Care Admissions Unit at its building in Arroyo de la Miel at the end of June. This new unit will cover the different services offered by the first independent Centre of Palliative Care in Spain.
The Admissions Unit offers 16 beds. It will start to operate with 10 beds and the service will be expanded depending on the existing financial resources. This Admissions Unit will provide “intensive care in the control of symptoms” to improve the patient’s quality of live so that he/she can stay at home.
